Europe's Vatican finance report to be released on Wednesday
July 17, 2012: European banking inspectors have completed their report on the Vatican’s
financial procedures, and the report will be officially published by Moneyval on Wednesday,
according to a Vatican communique on Tuesday. Msgr. Balestrero Ettore, Vatican’s Under
Secretary for Relations with States will brief the press on Wednesday on the report
regarding the Holy See and the State of Vatican City on anti-money laundering and
combating the financing of terrorism.
Inspectors from the “Moneyval” committee
have been assessing the new Vatican regulations on financial transfers, which are
intended to ensure compliance with European rules to guard against money-laundering.
Last year the Vatican adopted a series of new financial accounting procedures designed
to eliminate concerns about transparency.
The Council of Europe MONEYVAL Committee
adopted on 4th July this year, during its 39th plenary meeting, the first
evaluation report on the Holy See including the Vatican City State. Moneyval
is the Council of Europe’s department responsible for the evaluation of member states
with respect to anti-money laundering systems.
