(Vatican Radio) The General Synod of the Church of England on Monday postponed a final
decision on whether to ordain women bishops, a step which has already been taken in
other parts of the worldwide Anglican Communion. At a meeting of the Church’s governing
body in York, the synod voted to adjourn its final approval, following disagreement
over a clause allowing alternative Episcopal oversight for those who do not accept
the ordination of women bishops. Over recent months, 42 of the Church of England’s
44 dioceses voted to accept the legislation, but last minute amendments by the bishops
caused both supporters and opponents to reject the ruling in its current form. To
