(Vatican Radio) The programme of the Pope’s upcoming Apostolic Visit to Lebanon from
September 14th to 16th has been released. Pope Benedict XVI
will touch down on Lebanese soil in the afternoon of the 14th September
giving his first speech at Rafiq Hariri International Airport in Beirut.
From
there the Holy Father will travel to Harissa where he will sign the Post Synodal Exhortation
for the Middle Synod which will take place in the city’s Basilica of St Paul.
On
the 15th of September the Pope will have a busy schedule in the Western
Lebanese city of Baabda where he will pay a courtesy visit to the country’s President
in the morning followed by a meeting with Muslim religious leaders. Later in the morning,
Pope Benedict will give a speech to Government officials, religious leaders, members
of the Diplomatic Corps, and representatives from the world of culture.
The
Holy Father’s visit will take him on to Bzommer northeast of Beirut where he will
have lunch with Lebanese Bishops before heading to the See of the Maronite Catholic
Patriarchate Bkerké for an encounter with young people in the evening
The Pope’s
final day in Lebanon on the 16th of September will see him celebrating
Mass and handing over the Post Synodal Exhortation for the Middle Synod at Beirut
City Center Waterfront. Later in the day the Holy Father will attend on ecumenical
meeting before concluding his visit with a farewell speech at Rafik Hariri International
