(Vatican Radio) Ahead of leaving for his Summer residence in Castel Gandolfo Tuesday,
Pope Benedict XVI appointed Msgr. Jeffrey M. Monforton Bishop of Steubenville (USA).
Previoulsy he was pastor of the "Saint Andrew Parish" in Rochester.
Bishop
Marc Jeffrey Monforton was born May 5, 1963 in Detroit. He completed his studies in
philosophy at the "Sacred Heart Seminary" in Detroit (1989) and those of theology
at the Pontifical North American College in Rome and the Pontifical Gregorian University
(1992). He obtained a Licentiate (1994) and later a Doctorate in Spiritual Theology
at the Gregorian Always (2002).
He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese
of Detroit June 25, 1994.
He has held the following positions: assistant priest
of the "National Shrine of the Little Flower" in Royal Oak (1994-1996), personal secretary
of Cardinal Adam J. Maida (1998-2005); assistant parish priest at "Saint Paul on the
Lake Parish" in Grosse Pointe Farms (1998-2002); "Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Parish"
in Sterling Heights (2002-2005); professor at the "Sacred Heart Seminary" in Detroit
(2002-2005); pastor of the "Saint Therese of Lisieux Parish" in Shelby Township (2005-2006),
Rector of the "Sacred Heart Seminary" (2006-2012).
In 2005 the Congregation
for Catholic Education (for Seminaries and Institutes of Study) included him in the
Visitors of the Apostolic Visitation of U.S. seminaries for the academic year 2005-2006.
In the same year he was appointed chaplain of His Holiness.
