Archbishop of Guwahati: a passion for evangelisation
Forty-three newly created Metropolitan Archbishops received the Pallium – the special
sign of their office – on Friday, during a Mass to mark the feast of Sts. Peter and
Paul. Archbihsop John Moolachira of Guwahati Archdiocese in north-east India close
to the border with China and Bhutan and the Himalayas was among them. Archbishop Moolachira
spoke with Vatican Radio about his mission in the region. “It is a highly responsive
area for evangelisation,” explained Archbishop Moolachira. He went on to explain that
the Church in the region is expanding. “We are looking for more missionaries,” he
said, to fill the need created by their pastoral and social network of forty-one parishes,
schools, boarding houses, dispensaries, hospitals and other services. “When there
are more people,” he said, “more work will be done.” Listen to Archbishop Moolachira's
