CSW highlights plight of Eritrean refugees

Vatican Radio - Concern has been raised at the plight of refugees in Israel from Eritrea and other countries in the Horn of Africa who are facing hostility and the possibility of forcible return. Christian Solidarity Worldwide says, that particularly with regards to Eritrea, refugees face almost certain imprisonment and mistreatment” if returned to their own country.
“Their has been a sort of rising disturbance of anger at the presence of increasing numbers of refugees particularly from Sudan and Eritrea in Israel”, says Dr Khataza Gondwe, CSW Team Leader for Africa and the Middle East.
She adds that for Eritreans, “the thought that they have fled an oppressive regime, go through this and then to reach Israel only to be returned to the oppressive regime is quite an awful thought.”
Dr Gondwe tells Vatican Radio’s Lydia O’Kane that NGO’s have been trying to help meet the needs of refugees both psychologically and material needs. Listen to Lydia O'Kane's interview with Dr Khataza Gondwe RealAudioMP3
