The Embassy of Georgia to the Holy See held a special event this week to mark twenty
years of diplomatic relations with the Vatican. One of the participants was Georgia’s
1St Deputy Foreign Minister, Nikoloz Vashakidze, who told Vatican Radio
he looks forward to ever closer, stronger relations between the Holy See and his country.
“The foundation that has been laid down during these last twenty years is right healthy
and oriented in the right direction,” he said, noting the common values to which the
Holy See and Georgia are committed. Vashakidze went on to say, “Now, our common business
is, based on this right and solid foundation, to develop all these dimensions – and
I am quite optimistic in this regard.” Listen to the extended interview with Vatican
