(June 18, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI on Monday welcomed Spain’s new ambassador to the
Holy See, Eduardo Gutiérrez Sáenz de Buruaga. The 54-year old diplomat presented
his credentials to the Pope at a formal ceremony in the Vatican, at the start of his
diplomatic mission. A law graduate, Gutiérrez, specialized in international relations
at Madrid’s diplomatic school and served at Spain’s embassies in Sudan, Uruguay and
Mexico. Among important posts that he has held was Spain’s permanent observer to
the Organization of American States.
