Pope condoles the death of Cardinal Quezada Toruño
June 05, 2012: Pope Benedict XVI has expressed his deep saddeness at the passing
away of Cardinal Rodolfo Quezada Ignatius, Archbishop Emeritus of Guatemala. In a
telegraphic message he extended his deepest condolences to the Pastor, the auxiliary
bishops, clergy and the faithful of the local Church, as well as relatives of the
late cardinal. The Pope said that he was joining them with fervent prayers to the
Lord for granting his eternal peace.
Pope Benedict said that the cardinal
had generously served the Church during his ministry, as a guide for the Diocese of
Zacapa and archbishop of Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, and later as Archbishop of the
Metropolitan See of Guatemala.
With faith in the Paschal mystery of Christ
illuminating and hopeful moments of pain, and the memory of a pastor dedicated to
the mission of evangelization, I gladly impart to those mourning a special Apostolic
Blessing, Pope said in his message.
