Holy See and Slovenia celebrate 20th anniversary of diplomatic
relations
June 05, 2012: ‘We thank the Lord for all the gifts given to the noble nation of
Slovenia in the course of its history, and particularly the good understanding and
dialogue with the Apostolic See in these last 20 years by the establishment of diplomatic
relations’ said Archbishop Mamberti, Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States
on Monday during a Eucharistic celebration to mark the 20th anniversary
of the diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Slovenia .
Commenting
on the day’s Gospel on the parable of the wicked tenants, he said, the Word of God
requires not only reflection but also a decision, a concrete choice. A Christian,
immersed in the tasks and concerns of this time, should draw in God, through prayer
and the sacraments.
Archbishop Mamberti recalled the words Blessed John Paul
II which he delivered 19 September 1999 on the occasion of the beatification of Bishop
Anton Martin Slomšek:…Anton Martin Slomšek, first son of this Slovenian nation to
be elevated to the glory of the altars. The new blessed is offered to you as a model
of true patriotism. His initiatives have scored significantly the future of your people
and have made an important contribution to the achievement of independence.’ The
sanctification of current realities and the promotion of values, applies to Christians
in Slovenia. It's up to members of the Catholic Church to live and preach the gospel,
while contributing to the preservation and promotion of the Slovenian language and
culture, Archbishop Mamberti added.
