Eight convicted in Kandhamal riot case in India


June 2, 2012: A local court in eastern India’s Odisha state has convicted eight persons of house burning and looting during the atrocious 2008 communal riots against Christians. Additional Sessions Judge of First Track Court , SK Dash on Wednesday sentenced the eight to five years rigorous imprisonment.
The judge pronounced the judgement in a case relating to burning of houses belonging to minority community at a village under Daringbadi police station area of Kandhamal District. According to the prosecution, the eight convicted had attacked the houses of the minority community members on August 26, 2008. A FIR lodged by one Rajesh Pradhan, one of the victims of Gadadi village, revealed.
