Catholic leaders from some of the world’s worst conflict zones gather in the Vatican
on Tuesday for a two day conference focused on the challenges of peace and reconciliation
work. Participants from countries around the world will be sharing best practises
and experiences of preventing conflict or promoting reconciliation between warring
groups. The meeting has been organised by the Pontifical Justice and Peace Council,
together with Caritas Internationalis, the Catholic Peacebuilding Network and other
organisations, to mark the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s landmark
encyclical Pacem in terris. Philippa Hitchen spoke to one of the participants,
Marie Dennis, co-president of the international Catholic peace network Pax Christi
and former director of the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, about her work and
