Director of the Vatican Press Office on ‘vatileaks’ accused
May 26, 2012: On Saturday the Vatican Press office revealed the name of the person
arrested on Wednesday for alleged possession of illegal vatican documents as Mr Paul
Gabriel. According to the director of Vatican Press office, Father Frederico Lombardi,
the accused has been living at his home in Vatican territory, and he is still in detention.
The
first phase of "brief investigation" under the direction of the Promoter of Justice,
prof. Nicola Picardi, is complted, and has started the phase of "formal investigation"
conducted by Judge instructor, Professor. Piero Antonio Bonnet.
The accused
has appointed two lawyers of his choice, to act in the Court of Vatican, and had the
opportunity to meet them. They may assist in subsequent stages of the proceedings.
He enjoys all the legal guarantees provided by the codes of criminal procedure
criminal law in force in the State of Vatican City.
The preliminary phase will
continue until it is acquired an adequate picture of situation under investigation,
after which the investigating judge to prosecute or proceed to trial.
