Pope Benedict XVI exhorts Cardinals to fight against evil

May 22, 2012: Pope Benedict XVI on Monday urged the members of the college of cardinals to struggle against the evil as it wants to rule the world. It tries to dominate the world with different forms of violence, but also masked by good, and thus destroying the moral foundations of society’, the Pontiff added. He was addressing the Cardinals at a lunch hosted by him at the Vatican Apostolic Palace, as a sign of thanks for the good wishes expressed by them in the double celebration of his 85th birthday and the seventh anniversary of his pontificate .

Quoting St. Augustine, the Pope said that all history is a struggle between two loves: love of oneself even to contempt of God, and love of God to the contempt of self, in martyrdom.
We are in this fight and it is very important to have friends in this fight. And as for me, I'm surrounded by the College of Cardinals who are my friends.
Pope Benedict thanked his closest advisors for all their support during both the joys and the difficulties of his Petrine ministry. The Pontiff told them that he feel at home and feel confident in their company.

Earlier, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Dean of the College of Cardinals, greeted the Pope on behalf of them.

‘We are still in the Easter season and the Alleluia continues to flow from our heart to the wonders that God continues to work in our midst, through the ministry of the Successor of Peter’, said the Cardinal Sodano.

Appreciating his achievements and promising their support, Cardinal Sodano told the Pontiff that during his seven-year pontificate, the Pope has not ceased to invite all believers to discover the contents of faith, a faith professed, celebrated, lived and prayed.

For a world in search of a better future, Pope Benedict always reminds that the only forces of progress are those that change the human heart, in fidelity to the spiritual values, the Cardinal added.

Expressing his gratitude for the invitation, Cardinal Sodano wished the Pope long years, fruitful 8th year of his pontificate and a happy birthday.
