Delhi Archdiocesan Social Wing ‘Chetanalaya’ Wins Award
(May 11, 2012) The Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) has conferred ‘Chetanalaya’,
the social development wing of the Archdiocese of Delhi its Annual Award for excellence,
IGSSS Shresta Puraskar, in recognition of its significant contributions towards advocating
the rights of the homeless citizens or city makers. A notable initiative Chetanalaya
has been building local and community self-confidence as well as internal partnership
through projecting community movement as an alternative way of living. There have
been many different kinds of community movements. Chetanalaya’s movements encourage
people to be aware of issues related to everyday life such as food, house, waste,
medical service, transportation etc. and to control their life more autonomously.
Chetanalaya Director Fr. Susai Sebastian said the award was a reminder to Chetanalaya
to continue its sincere efforts for the upliftment of thousands of poor and marginalized
people. Chetanalaya is a forty year old organization, and Archbishop Vincent Concessao
of Delhi is among its former directors.
