Pontifical Council hosts international conference on human trafficking
May 08, 2012: The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace held on Tuesday an international
conference in Rome on human trafficking. The one-day conference focused on prevention,
pastoral support and rehabilitation of victims of human trafificking. The conference
attracted a wide variety of speakers, including Deputy Head of the Centre on Human
Trafficking UK, CARITAS of Lithuania and the nun who established Albania Hope, a charitable
organization against trafficking in persons. Delegates from around the world -
Lithuania, Nigeria, Thailand, South Africa, USA, Europe – attended the conference.
There were also be a victim of trafficking to tell her story. The conference is
co-organized by the Office for Migration Policy (OMP) of the Catholic Bishops' Conference
of England and Wales.
