Pope appoints Special Envoys to celebrations in Prague and Papua New Guninea
May 05, 2012: Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, SDB, Bishop
Emeritus of Hong Kong, his special envoy to the celebration of the centenary of the
birth of Blessed Peter torot, catechist and martyr of Papua New Guinea, scheduled
to be held on 7th July 2012.
Pope has also appointed Cardinal Christoph
Schönbom, OP, Archbishop of Vienna, as his Special Envoy to the celebration of the
450th anniversary of the formal renewal of the Archdiocese of Prague, which will take
place on 12 May 2012. Cardinal Schonbon will be accompanied by an Ecclesiastical Mission
consists of Benedikt MOHELNÍK, OP, Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Bohemian;
Vojtech NOVAK, pastor and dean of Rakovník and Director of the Pontifical Mission
Societies of the Archdiocese of Prague.
Pope Benedict XVI in his letter dated
30th March 2012 addressed to Cardinal SCHÖNBORN said that the Church community
of Prague has been for many centuries a centre of Christian Charity. It is also noted
for the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius.
Recalling the solemn ceremonies
scheduled for 12 May in Prague, the Pontiff assured his closeness. He also reiterated
the importance of New evangelization in Europe, especially at the beginning of the
third millennium of Christian salvation.
