Vatican website launches widget on Pope's 7th anniversary

(April 20, 2012) On the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the election of Pope Benedict XVI, on Thursday, April 19, the Vatican posted a widget on its home webpage (www.vatican.va), that will automatically bring updates on some of the main contents of the Vatican webpage to a user’s website or blog. A widget is a small stand-alone application that can be installed and executed within a web page and embedded by end users into their websites. The Vatican said that by using the new widget (vatican.va widget) one can import to one’s website the latest updates on the Pope, his Sunday ‘Angelus’ or ‘Regina Coeli’ speeches, his audiences and the Vatican press office's daily news bulletin. At the launch of the widget, the Vatican’s Internet Office said it should help make the content of its website more widely known and is another opportunity to use new technology "to spread the word of the Holy Father." Those wishing to utilize the widget must submit their own webpage to the widget link on the Vatican webpage.
