Afghan security forces killed 32 insurgents in operations to stop coordinated attacks
by Taliban insurgents that hit the capital of Kabul and three other provinces.
Battles
which broke out at mid-day on Sunday in the capital's central districts continued
through the night, and on Monday morning security forces flushed out militants holed
up near embassies in the heavily guarded diplomatic area.
The attacks come
in the run-up to Western forces leaving Afghanistan under a plan to hand over responsibilities
to the Afghan forces by 2014.
