Apostolic Nuncio calls on Syria’s President to end civilian killings

(March 14,,2012) The apostolic nuncio to Syria, Archbishop Mario Zenari has joined the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, in calling on the international community to send a clear message to Damascus that the killings of civilians must stop immediately. The prelate said “ I would like to subscribe to the message of the Special Envoy of the UN and the Arab League that the killings of civilians must stop immediately and the international community must give a clear message that this situation is simply unacceptable”. Annan, on the latest leg of his peace mission, met with the Syrian President on Tuesday and urged him to bring an immediate end to the bloodshed in the country, where UN estimates say more than 8,000 people have died since anti-government protests erupted a year ago, many of them women and children
