International Women’s Day is held on March 8th each year to celebrate women’s
achievements throughout history and across nations. It’s a day to examine the importance
of women in society, their influence and the issues that affect them.. Jean Hackett
is the national president of the Women’s World Day of Prayer movement in England.
It’s part of a global ecumenical movement that brings Christians of many traditions
together to observe a worldwide day of prayer in March each year. She spoke to Lydia
O'Kane about how this year’s prayer theme focussed on two main issues: women living
with HIV/Aids and women as victims of trafficking.
