Pope’s condolence message for Brazzaville disaster
(March, 07, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI expressed his sorrow and prayers when told
of the tragic explosion of a munitions depot which occurred in Congo Brazzaville
on Sunday..The State Radio reported that the explosion killed over 200 people, wounded
some 1,340 and left homeless about 5000 people. The Pope’s condolence message was
conveyed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone to Bishop Louis Portella
Mbuyu of Kinkala, President of the Episcopal Conference of Congo. The message expressed
the Pontiff’s prayers for the victims, his deep sympathy to the sorrowing families
and his hope and comfort to all those wounded
