Only place worthy for conception is marriage - Pope
(February 25.2012) “The human and Christian dignity in procreation consists not
in the product but its relation to the conjugal act which is the expression of love
between a married couple, an expression of their union both biological and spiritual,"
said Pope Benedict XVI told participants in the 18th General Assembly of
Vatican’s Pontifical Academy for Life on Saturday. The Feb. 23-25 general assembly
included a day-long worshop dedicated to treating of infertility in an ethical way.
This approach had been motivated by the desire not only to gift a child to the couple
but also to restore to them their fertility and their entire dignity of being responsible
for their procreative choices, thus becoming collaborators with God the Creator. Pope
benedict warned against methods of in-vitro and artificial fertilisation, because
it separates the procreative purpose of marriage from its unitive purpose. Such methods
are also inspired by easy gain and the arrogant attitude of substituting for the
creator. The church shares closely the suffering of infertile couples. Being aware
that science may not succeed in solving the problems of all such couple, the Church
assures them that by their baptismal and matrimonial vocation they have been called
to collaborate with God in the creation of a new humanity. The vocation to love
is the invitation to give oneself to the other in love and service and be illumined
by the light of Christ. Turning to the scientists he told them that those were blessed
who possessing the truth continue to delve deeper into it, to renew it and to gift
it to others.
