Indian Priests, Sisters and Brothers felicitate Cardinal Alencherry in
Rome
February 21, 2012: Over a thousand Indian Priests, sisters and brothers joined under
the aegis of their organization ISPBU to felicitate the New Indian cardinal George
Alencherry at Collegio San Paolo in Rome on Monday. While responding to his felicitation,
the Cardinal said that ‘all of us are unique and blessed and are called to be witnesses
and apostles of God’s love and peace. He further added (audio insert) At the inaugural
address, Debabrata Saha, Indian Ambassdor to Italy acknowledged and appreciated the
contribution of Christians in India. He himself has been a beneficiary of Christian
education, he added (audio insert). Telesphore Cardinal P. Toppo, President of
Catholic Conference of Bishops of India (CCBI) and Archbishop of Ranchi Cardinal;
Ivan Dias, prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples;
Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil, Secretary to the Pontifical Council of Pastoral
Care of Migrants and Itinerant People and His Grace Archbishop Peter Prabhu, Emeritus
Apostolic Nuncio to Zimbabwe were present on the occasion. Indian Priests, sisters
and brothers union (IPBSU) is founded in 1950 with Cardinal Simon Lourdusamy as its
patron. According to its latest directory, the union has over 1500 members working,
studying or teaching in Rome.
