The United Nations General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to condemn the Syrian
government and support an Arab League peace plan that asks President Assad to step
down. The condemnation of the ongoing violence passed by 137 votes to 12 against with
17 abstentions.
Russia and China both voted against the resolution, as they
did on two previous occasions in the United Nations Security Council.
