Pius XII : a microphone to enable human hearts to beat as one
Celebrating World Radio Day,an observance that is marked internationally on February
13th, we bring you a programme dedicated to an historic moment in the history of Vatican
Radio, It was 1950, in the aftermath of the Second World War, when Pius XII
spoke through the microphones of Vatican Radio to another Catholic Radio in the United
States. The radio station in question was ‘The Catholic Hour’ celebrating over
a quarter of a century of broadcasting . The occasion provided an opportunity
for this twentieth century Roman Pontiff to express both gratitude to the people of
the United States for their concern during the war years as well as admiration for
the marvels of modern science. A scrap book in sound presented and produced by
Veronica Scarisbrick .
