On February 6th 1952, the 25 year old British Princess Elizabeth was on a royal tour
of Kenya when she was informed of the sudden death of her father, King George VI.
Two days later, after returning to England, she was proclaimed "Queen of the Realm,
head of the Commonwealth and Defender of the Faith"
60 years on, commemorations
here in Rome and around the world for the king's death and the young queen's accession
to the throne mark the start of a year of Diamond Jubilee celebrations, including
