Vatican official speaks of Symposium on Sexual abuse of minors
(February 04, 2012) A top Vatican official referred to the symposium for Catholic
Bishops and Religious Superiors on Sexual abuse of minors, to be held at the Gregorian
University from February 6th to 9th under the caption “Towards
healing and Renewal”. Jesuit Father Frederico Lombardi, Vatican Press Office Head
said this, on Saturday in an editorial on Credibility and transparency. He remarked
that sexual abuse of minors and financial affairs have been the two topics that have
drawn public attention also in relation to the church. Pope Benedict has taken a strong
and clear stand on both matters. Accordingly the forthcoming conference at the Gregorian
will inform Catholic Bishops and religious superiors on the global. Cross-cultural
resources available in responding to sexual abuse within the church and society. This
gathering will build upon the recently issued circular letter of the Vatican Congregation
for the Doctrine of the faith requesting all dioceses within the year to develop
procedures suitable for assisting victims of such abuse, and also for educating the
ecclesial community concerning the protection of minors.
