Pope's Apostolic Journey to Mexico and Cuba in March
January 31, 2012: Vatican has released on Tuesday the details of the Apostolic
Journey Pope Benedict XVI to Mexico and the Republic of Cuba scheduled for 23 to
29 March 2012. According to the communiqué Pope will leave Rome on March 23, at
9.30 am. He will be received at a welcome ceremony in the International airport of
Guanajuato in Silao town. On Saturday, March 24, Pope will pay a courtesy visit
to the Federal President. Later he will address children at the Plaza de la Paz, Guanajuato.
On Sunday, March 25, the Pope will celebrate the Holy Mass in the Parque de León.
Later in the evening the Pontiff will have Vespers with the Bishops of Mexico and
Latin America in the Cathedral of the Blessed Mother of the Light of Leon. On
Monday, March 26 the Pope will leave for Santiago de Cuba. He will be received at
a welcome ceremony in the International airport of Antonio Maceo. In the evening he
will celebrate Holy mass on the occasion of 400 anniversary of the discovery of the
Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre in Antonio Maceo Square in Santiago de Cuba. On
Tuesday, March 27, the Pope is scheduled to visit the shrine of Cobre, our lady of
Charity of Santiago de Cuba, after which he leaves for Havana. Later the Pope will
pay a courtesy visit to President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers
of the Republic at the Palacio de la Revolución in Havana. It will be followed by
Meeting and dinner with Cuban Bishops. On Wednesday, March 28, the Pontiff will
celebrate Holy Mas in the Plaza de la Revolucion in Havana. In the evening the Pope
will return to Rome, after a departure ceremony at the International airport of José
Martí in Havana.
