Guwahati Archdiocese has new archbishop


( Sedoc) The Archdiocese of Guwahati in north-east India has a new Archbishop.
The coadjutor Archbishop John Moolachira of this archdiocese on Wednesday succeeded Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil, who reached the retirement age of seventy-five.
Archbishop Moolachira was born in Puthusserykadavu, Kerala Dec 14, 1951. He was ordained priest for Tezpur Diocese Oct. 23, 1978 and consecrated bishop for Diphu Diocese 15 April 2007. Four years later he was appointed coadjutor Archbishop of Guwahati.
The Archdiocese of Guwahati has a territory consisting of 5 districts. Catholics number over 75 thousand in a population of more than 7 million inhabitants
