In Perù, Cardinal Robert Sarah, visited Manchay locality on the outskirts of Lima,
an urban settlement of more than 70,000 inhabitants suffering problems of extreme
poverty, lack of water and terrorist violence. The prelate told the parents to educate
their children in the love of God and conveyed Pope Benedict XVI’s solidarity, saying
he was spiritually close to them in their suffering . Cardinal Sarah, who hails
from Guinea explained that another reason for his visit to Lima was to make a pilgrimage
to all the places where St. Rose of Lima lived, as St. Rose is the patroness
of his parish in Africa, which will mark its 100th anniversary next month.
