Two Indians among papal appointments to Vatican’s communications office
(December 30, 2011) Pope Benedict appointed on Friday two Indian clerics to the Vatican’s
Pontifical Council for Social Communications. Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop
of Bombay is among 9 new members of the pontifical council. Meanwhile Jesuit priest,
Fr. Augustine Savarimuthu, who is director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Social
Communications at Rome’s Gregorian University, has been nominated by the Pope as one
of the 10 consultors to the pontifical council. The consultors include two priests,
a nun, 5 lay men and 2 lay women. Joining Cardinal Gracias among the 9 new members
of the Vatican’s communications office is also Croatian Cardinal Josip Bozanić, Archbishop
of Zagreb and Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, the president of the Vatican’s Pontifical
Council for Promoting New Evangelization.
