Maharashtra CM lauds Christian contribution to society
(December 23, 2011) The chief minister of western India’s Maharashtra state has said
that Christians are a peaceful community that has always contributed in various sectors
across the country. “I must appreciate the contribution of the Christian community
in the field of education, health and social services throughout the state of Maharashtra
and across the country,” Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said on Thursday at a Christmas
breakfast hosted for Christian leaders by the National Council of Churches. Chavan
said that Christians have always remained peaceful and worked for unity at a time
when efforts are made to divide communities. The chief minister also extended his
Christmas greetings to the community. Church of North India Bishop Paul Dupare along
with other clergy felicitated Chavan on the occasion.
