Pope’s priesthood anniversary remembered by Korean children
(Dec. 21, 2011) South Korean children on Wednesday presented Pope Benedict XVI
an album containing letters with drawings, which they did to celebrate the 6oth anniversary
of his priesthood this year. Three Korean children handed the album to Pope Benedict
during Wednesday’s general audience . It contained the works of 33 Korean children,
winners of the contest organised by the South Korean Embassy to the Holy See, in cooperation
with the Korean Catholic newspaper “Pyeonghwa Shinmun” - Journal of Peace of the
Seoul Archdiocese. Pope Benedict marked 60 years of his priesthood on June 29 this
year. He was ordained priest in 1951 in Freising, Germany. During the Christmas eve
Mass Dec. 24, one of the three children will read the prayer of the faithful in
Korean, the other two will receive Communion from the hands of the Holy Father..
The Embassy of South Korea to the Holy See said it organised this contest to
thank Pope Benedict for his tireless service to humanity and for his great affection
for the people of Korea.
