Caritas Europe warning as austerity measures kick in
Caritas Europe is warning that austerity measures pursued by many countries in the
European Union will result in the erosion of social services, and the further exclusion
of people who already find themselves on the margins of society.

Caritas bodies have analysed the first year of implementation of “Europe 2020”, the
overarching reform strategy of the EU for the next decade.
In a report published
this month, they conclude that the issue of poverty and social exclusion is not being
addressed as governments scramble to cut public spending.
