Tribute to Cardinal Foley: his personal memories of Vatican II
The funeral Mass for the late Cardinal John Patrick Foley will be held in the afternoon
of Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in
his hometown of Philadelphia in the United States.
The Cardinal was a long
time friend of ours here at Vatican Radio and we interviewed him on many an occasion.
In a tribute to his memory we share with you an interview in which he speaks
to Veronica Scarisbrick about personal recollections of early times in Rome .
Telling her how he arrived here the year following his ordination to the
priesthood to study philosophy at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
How his stay here coincided with an exciting time in the history of the Catholic
Church: the Second Vatican Council.
In a special way the Cardinal tells of
his reporting on this momentous epoch for the diocesan newspaper in Philadelphia
as well as for Catholic News Service...
