Myanmar joins Church in seeking unity

December 13, 2011: Myanmar Government and Church officials have agreed that all members of society have a role to play in the political and economic development of the country.
Yangon region Chief Minister Myint Swe joined Archbishop Charles Bo of Yangon and about 300 others at a prayer service at St Mary’s Cathedral on December 10, for an event organized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar and the Myanmar Council of Churches.
“All citizens in the country, including from all ethnic areas, rely on each other for survival. Peace, unity and cooperation are essential for our development,” Myint Swe said.
Thura U Myint Maung, minister of religious affairs, urged all in attendance to work for “peace, justice and unity” and to take responsibility as good citizens according to the teachings of Christ.
