Monsignor Peter Fleetwood explains in fact : " 'Gaudete Sunday is one of the two
Sundays in the year when you may see your priest in the pink as a sign of joy ."
Because
he says, while Advent may be a purple season : " ... it doesn't seem penitential
, it's more a thoughtful time ...we're waiting for a baby boy to be born and that
makes it a season of joy. The third Sunday has traditionally been the focal point
of the season. In the days when the Church prayed in Latin throughout the world mass
that day began with the word , gaudete, rejoice ..."
