New English Roman Missal from 1st Sunday of Advent
(November 26, 2011) From the first Sunday of Advent, the third edition of the Roman
Missal is coming into effect, in all the 164 dioceses in India. The text, to be introduced
across the English speaking world, has been in the making for many years and is the
fruit of diligent efforts, said Father Savio Rodrigues, secretary of the Commission
of Liturgy of the Conference of Catholic Bishops’ of India (CBCI). A specially bound
copy of the English translation of the Roman Missal according to the third typical
edition was presented Thursday to His Excellency, the Most Rev Salvatore Pennacchio,
Apostolic Nuncio to New Delhi. This text had received the approval from Rome in 2010
and Salesian Archbishop Dominic Jala had been entrusted with the responsibility of
preparing the Missal for India. He is the Indian Latin rite bishops representative
to the ICEL, International Commission on English in the Liturgy. The Missal was printed
at Bosco Society for Printing and Graphic Training in Delhi. The Missal will be used
in liturgical celebrations across this country from today and it is hoped that the
implementation of these new texts will serve as an opportunity for a deeper catechesis
on the liturgy and an occasion for all of us to commit ourselves to a more prayerful,
faithful and vibrant celebration of the sacred mysteries.
