All about the new English Missal

This first Sunday of Advent sees a momentous change for English speaking Catholics going to mass with the introduction of the new English translation of the Roman Missal. The long-awaited new translation is more accurate and faithful to the original Latin text and Pope Benedict says he prays that the change will serve as a springboard for a renewal and deeping of Eucharistic devotion all over the English-speaking world. To find out more about the changes being introduced and the reasons for them, Susy Hodges spoke to Monsignor Andrew Wadsworth, head of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, known as ICEL, that oversaw this project.

Monsignor Wadworth says "it's the same mass but it will sound different." He explains that thousands of people around the world were involved in the consultations concerning the new translation and says "the reactions have been overwhelmingly postive" although he adds that "obviously everybody finds change slightly unnerving and at times difficult."
