November 22, 2011: The question of God today ‘Must we not re-start again from
God?’ is the theme of the twenty-fifth Plenary Meeting of the Pontifical Council for
the Laity which will be held in Rome from 24 to 26 November 2011. The quote in the
theme is taken from the Pope Benedict XVI’s book-interview "Light of the World", revealed
a press release on Tuesday. The question of God is one of the priorities of the
Magisterium of Pope Benedict XVI, in particular it will be questions relating to the
proposed vocation and the mission of the lay faithful. The meeting will open with
a summary report on the Magisterium of Benedict XVI, which will serve as a guide to
further reflections. It will then proceed with an analysis of the situation of faith
and unbelief in the world today. It will be followed by a report on the relationship
between reason and faith and, a report on the God of Jesus Christ in the Catholic
faith. The meeting will also explore the exchange between belief and unbelief in
the manner of the witness of God in different environments and the impact that the
subject "God" in contemporary publishing. It follows a debate on space research
and dialogue called by the Holy Father "the court of the gentiles." The third day
will offer a reflection on the language more appropriate to speak of God to modern
man. The second part of the Plenary Assembly is dedicated to the evaluation of
work done in the period since the last meeting in May 2010 to date and to discuss
initiatives for the near future, in particular the Congress to lay Catholics in Africa
in Cameroon, 2012.
