The Arab League said today it had rejected a request by Damascus to amend plans for a
500-strong monitoring mission to Syria. The rebuff came after President Bashar al-Assad
disregarded a deadline to halt violent repression of protesters.
Meanwhile,
Two
rocket-propelled grenades reportedly hit a major ruling party building in Damascus
today.
It was the first attack by insurgents -- mainly army defectors -- reported
inside the Syrian capital since street demonstrations against Assad’s rule broke out
in March.
President Bashar al Assad has said in an interview with the Sunday
Times that he will continue with a security crackdown to crush ``militants'' who he
says are massacring Syrians on a daily basis. Listen
