The Catholic Church in England has been in the media spotlight again recently following
investigations into child abuse by members of the Ealing Abbey Benedictine monastery
in West London. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith here in the Vatican
has ordered an "apostolic visitation", headed by the auxiliary bishop of Westminster
John Arnold, to investigate allegations that both monks and lay teachers abused children
from the neighbouring school over the past five decades. To find out how these latest
scandals have affected the wider Catholic community in Britain, Philippa Hitchen spoke
