The Christian faith can and should encourage believers to tread lightly on our earth,
live simply without wasting resources, and to love and rejoice in all of God’s creation
– as St Francis taught so eloquently some eight centuries ago. But to understand exactly
what that means for us today is not always an easy concept to grasp – sometimes it
entails moving far away from our physical and spiritual comfort zones, just as a pilgrimage
often takes us to distant shores, dependent on the hospitality of others along the
way.. Rev. Richard Frazer is minister of the Church of Scotland’s Greyfriars Kirk
in Edinburgh city centre – he spoke to Philippa Hitchen about the important place
of pilgrimage within our Christian tradition….
