Conclusion of the Congress of the Pontifical Works for Vocations
(November 05, 2011) The 3-day convention of the Pontifical Works for Priestly Vocations
on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its foundation, held in the Roman conference
centre Domus Pacis,, concluded on Saturday. In his concluding discourse Cardinal
Zenon Grocholewski, Prefect of the Vatican Pontifical Works for Priestly Vocations,
summed up the aspirations of the Congress to make the commitment to the promotion
of vocations a priority among the concerns of the church; this called not only for
the active participation of individual churches but the fervent concern of the entire
Christian community. He expressed appreciation of the numerous presence of the members
of the US foundation Serra International, which has for the past 60 years been in
the forefront of the promotion of vocations and in the support of the Seminarians
in training. He reminded the Christian community, that Vocation which is a gift of
God is not given except within the church and through its mediation. It was the noble
task of the Church to expend its best energies to foster vocations and to accompany
their pastors throughout their apostolate.
