(November 03, 2011) The All India Christian Council (AICC) has taken strong exception
to Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy’s “slander campaign” against the Christian
and Muslim communities and the Council in his recent police complaint. Swamy had
on October 25 filed an FIR, First Information Report to the Delhi Police against Congress
president Sonia Gandhi and National Advisory Council (NAC) members claiming they had
“committed offences” against Hindu community. In a press statement on November 2
after the conclusion of the Karnataka chapter, AICC secretary general John Dayal and
state unit leaders said they had repeatedly called for strong laws to save minorities
from being targeted. Cautioning people against attempts by Sangh Parivar to communalise
the environment in Karnataka, they said BJP leader LK Advani’s “Rath Yatra” was to
“sow seeds of communal hatred for electoral gains”. Dayal said the Christian leaders
in Mumbai had filed a complaint demanding legal action against Swamy for spreading
hate and violating the constitution with his article in a newspaper against providing
voting rights for Muslims. Swamy had also attacked the AICC which is supporting the
legislation to prevent violence against minorities, the statement said.
