(October 22 2011) In Bangladesh, the Archdiocese of Dhaka has a new archbishop, Patrick
D’Rozario of the Holy Cross congregation, the coadjutor of the archdiocese. The Vatican
announced the change on Saturday, saying Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation
of Archbishop Paulinus Costa who has reached the retirement age of 75. According
to Canon Law of the Church, a coadjutor bishop has the right to succession on the
retirement, resignation or death of a bishop. Archbishop Costa reached retirement
age amid birthday celebrations on Wednesday, clearing the way for Coadjutor Archbishop
Patrick D’Rozario, formerly the bishop of Chittagong. 68-year old Bishop Patrick
D’Rozari was born on Oct. 1, 1943 at Padrishibpur, and became a member of the Holy
Cross order in 1962. He was ordained priest in 1972 and was appointed bishops of
Rajshahi in 1990. In 1995 he was transferred to Chittagong, and on Nov. 25, last
year was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Dhaka. Bangladesh has one metropolitan
see, Dhaka, with six suffragans.
