Appointment of Pontifical Delegate for centenary of the birth of St Agnes
(October 22. 2011) The Pope has appointed Cardinal Joachim Meisner, Archbishop of
Cologne as his special delegate for the centenary celebrations of the birth of St
Agnes of Bohemia, to be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Prague, Czech Republic
on 12 November next. Saint Agnes of Bohemia (1211 – March 6, 1282), was a medieval
Bohemian princess who opted for a life of charity and piety over a life of luxury
and comfort. Although she was venerated soon after her death, Agnes was not beatified
and canonized for over 700 years.
