6th International Convention of Military Ordinariate
(october 22, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI addressing the Military Ordinariates participating
in the 6th Intenational Convention at the Vatican and those taking part
in the third International formation course for Military chaplains, Saturday, stressed
the need of guaranteeing spiritual guidance to military personnel and their families,
to enable them to follow a coherent and missionary Christian life. An “Ordinariate”
is a diocese that is NOT territorial but functional and oriented to helping the faithful
of military bases. The duty of the ordinariate implied the formation of Christians
imbued with a deep faith which leads to convinced Christian practice making them witnesses
to the faith. The Pope reminded his hearers that we are in the context of the 25th
anniversary of the promulgation of Blessed John Paul II’s apostolic Constitution
on the spiritual care of soldiers. In the spirit of this Constitution the Military
Ordinariates had manifested a more evangelical style in their apostolate, adapting
the pastoral structures to the urgent needs of the new evangelization
