India’s National Centre for Proclamation inaugurated
(October 20, 2011) A national resource centre for the formation of evangelizers has
been inaugurated in central India’s Madhya Pradesh state. Called ‘Suvarta Kendra’,
the National Centre for Proclamation, owned by the Conference of Catholic Bishops
of India (CCBI) or Latin rite bishops of India, was inaugurated at Pachmarhi, on Tuesday
with a Mass by Bishop Sebastianappan Singaroyan of Salem, the Chairman of the CCBI
Commission for Proclamation. “It is a great boon and blessing for the Church in
India to have Suvarta Kendra to motivate, animate, empower and equip the laity, catechists,
religious and priests in sharing the Good News of the Lord.” Bishop Singaroyan said.
The main celebrant, Bishop Isidore Fernandes of Allahabad, former Chairman of the
CCBI Commission for Proclamation, said, “It is a historic moment for the Church in
India to have a resource centre for the formation of evangelizers for our country.”
Archbisiop Leo Cornelio of Bhopal said Suvarta Kendra will put Pachmarhi on the world
map with many coming from every corner of India to receive the zeal in sharing the
good news.
